October 2011
This has been a busy summer, with two very successful exhibitions of bridal and christening dresses and our annual pilgrimage.
In April, the first exhibition was held at Walwyn's Castle Church . Teas were served in the hall. No charges were made, but donations enabled us to send £330 to Save the Children for their work in Japan with the children affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
In June, the group provided tea after the St Davids Festival Concert at Llanrhian Church. This raised £350 for our funds.
During Civic Week in Fishguard at the end of July, the Wedding and Christening Dress Exhibition was held at St Mary's Church for the entire week. This attracted many visitors from near and far. Due to their generosity and the hard work of the many who helped to stage and steward the event, £1038 was raised. This was divided between the Bukavu education fund for the children of the Congo and St Mary's Church.
In August, our annual Pilgrimage began with a visit to Llangolman Church. The pilgrims then walked to St Teilo's Well. Lunch was provided at Maenclochog hall.
In September, the representative of Save the Children in Wales gave a talk to us to tell us about the work carried out in Japan. We also heard about their work in Wales to ensure that every child "is born with a chance" Our annual St Nicholas Day service for schools will take place on December 8th at St Nicholas church.
Exhibition
Our Exhibition of bridal and christening gowns proved a great success and is to be staged again at St Mary's Church, Fishguard from the 23rd July for a week. The dresses are accompanied by a history and photographs when possible. The Exhibiton at Walwyn's Castle was very well attended and generous donations meant we were able to send £300 to Save the Children for their work with the children of Japan. Save the Children will be coming to talk to us in the autumn to tell us how the money is spent, and we will be holding a wine and cheese evening together with the talk.
